Kim Cotton has been at the forefront of surrogacy since becoming the first commercial surrogate mother in the UK in 1985. The birth of Baby Cotton as she became known caused a media frenzy of negativity with laws rushed through Parliament to ban commercial surrogacy.

Appearing in countless news articles and television programs over the years, Kim has been instrumental in helping to change public opinion so that surrogacy is now an acceptable form of treatment widely offered at IVF units nationwide.

Kim was consulted to give evidence to the Law Commission on proposed changes to the surrogacy laws as she is considered an expert in this field. Her expertise and her willingness to discuss openly the emotional and cultural complexity surrounding surrogacy are widely recognised.

She has recently advised an IVF clinic from the Netherlands on how to start and implement their surrogacy programmes.

Kim understands first-hand what it means to be part of a surrogate journey and has dedicated her life to the support of those looking to venture down this path be it as a surrogate or intended parent.

Kim was featured in a photographic exhibition by Anita Corbin, which toured galleries throughout the UK and featured the first women pioneers in their chosen field.
